Empowering others is my passion, as such, I have chosen to devout my time and attention particularly to women empowerment. As women we are our own biggest advocate, and if we can break that stereotypical woman versus woman mentality there’s so much that we can do.
My daily prayer is “Lord, please use me to empower other women. To make them feel strong and confident. To make them fearless to experience more in life. Give me the ability to be a good teacher and be Your example.”
One of my favourite Christian hymns (Music by Phillip Landgrave (1975) Lyrics by Grace Noll Crowell (1936):
Because I Have Been Given Much
Because I have been given much,
I too must give;
Because of thy great bounty Lord,
Each day I live;
I shall divide my gifts from thee
With every brother that I see
Who has the need of help from me.
Because I have been sheltered, fed
By thy good care;
I cannot see another’s lack and I not share;
My glowing fire, my loaf of bread,
my roof’s safe shelter overhead
That he too may be comforted.
Because I have been blessed by
thy great love dear Lord;
I’ll share thy love again
According to thy word;
I shall give love to those in need,
I’ll show that love by word and deed;
Thus shall my thanks be thanks in deed
I love this hymn because it reminds me of the things that I have received from others and it reminds me that I too must return the favour. The message in this hymn helps me to question my purpose on this earth and encourages me to fulfill it.
Each of us has a purpose in this life and we were brought on this earth for a reason. While it’s sometimes difficult to know our purpose or the meaning of life, we must thrive and move forward. And what better way to move forward than to learn from those who have lived and shared their words of wisdom.
We have to cling to the hope of Jeremiah 29:11 (AMP) in that, “ ‘For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”.
I constantly remind myself that caring about others is fundamental to my happiness. Helping other people is not only good for them and a great thing to do, but it also makes me happier and healthier, too. Giving also creates stronger connections between people and helps to build a happier society for everyone. And it’s not all about money—we can also give our time, ideas and energy. So if you want to feel good, do good.
There are many women who have been there for me, from many different walks of life ranging from church, work, social clubs or even strangers who have encouraged me to keep grinding and to believe in myself and my abilities and I thank God for their lives. Thus I always feel the desire to help others too.
I would like to think that most of you reading this article right now can think of another woman who encouraged you and cheered you on or you can look at someone and smile thinking of how you have encouraged them to be where they are.
I know from growing up that a lot of people would not help the next person because they have the mindset that if I help them they will be better than me. I challenge you that if you are one of those people you have to change your mindset. To change your mindset is not easy but it is one of the most powerful things you can do. Learning how to recognize a negative mindset is the first step. Once you do that you will be empowered to make those changes and start seeking out the positive. Doing this can often turn your entire life around for the better.
Because I have been given much, I too must give. This pushed me to create a brand Girl Code101 (www.girlcode101.com) which offers coaching and mentorship services to women from all walks of life. Visit the website for more information.
